Dresden has 7 Christmas markets in our directory. Confirmed 2026 dates: Dresdner Striezelmarkt, 25 Nov – 24 Dec 2026. Last season most opened around 26 Nov and the last one closed on 4 Jan 2026; 1 stayed open after Christmas. All are free to enter.
Dresden's Striezelmarkt on the Altmarkt was first held in 1434, making it one of the oldest documented Christmas markets in Germany. It's named after the Striezel, the original name of Dresden's famous Christstollen, and on the Saturday before the second Sunday of Advent a giant Stollen is paraded through the old town at the Stollen Festival.
The market is crowned by a giant Christmas pyramid and sells wooden crafts from the nearby Ore Mountains: nutcrackers, smoking men and candle arches. Dresden has several other markets too, including a medieval market in the Stallhof of the Residence Palace and the Advent market on the Neumarkt by the Frauenkirche.
Sorted by opening date. Dates shown are from the 2025–26 season unless 2026 dates are marked — check the official website before you go.
